Sakura was born on StarDate 291209.30 in the safety of the Tokyo Maternity grounds of Acadonia, on Angel Island, Tai'ruun to pahmah Yuri Kirei Enjeru, and ohmah Sora Alessandra. She proved to be a worrisome baby as she was born both premature and albino. It was believed that her complexion was due to Sora's ethnic background, and that her premature birth may have been the result of a trauma Kirei suffered late in her pregnancy. As a result she was raised a bit more carefully than other babies of her background. Sakura's youth has thusly been spent playing catch-up to her peers. It is possible that her late start spurred her to focus on alternative methods of self-defense.
Early on Sakura exhibited a notably gentle nature, a calm that inspired Sora and Kirei to agree upon her saname, Yasashii, which in the context of her personality is meant to mean 'Gentle,' though some later have jokingly referred to her as 'Easy.'
From the beginning Yasashii was a source of contention for her parents, Sora and Kirei. Sora wanted her to spend her time gaining an education, while Kirei felt that self-defense was more important for her, considering that Yasashii, like her pahmah, is an Angel, and not just any ordinary Angel, she is a Pure angel, meaning that her bloodline has not been diluted. The result was a Senshi who spent more hours in school than her peers, but her science background affords her a good deal of tactics when in combat.
Though Yasashii's advancements in the martial arts began a bit later than her peers, her divinity began much earlier than most angels, so early in fact, that even her cherubim-pahmah Kirei and her seraphic nonimah Moya were both initially greatly concerned. Sakura's first wing sprouted on StarDate 291402.52, an incredibly traumatic and painful experience for any 3-year-old child to experience, and much earlier than the average six or seven years of age for normal angels. Yasashii's emergence came at a rather critical point, as Kirei had been shot down by an Angel hunter while transporting Sakura to the mainland's hospital earlier that day.
Yasashii managed to find refuge in a small cave after escaping some of the tropical predators in the jungle. In a reaction to her fear, Yasashii had incinerated the creatures that were hunting her as well as igniting several fires on the way to the cave. Inadvertently, her flight of panic damaged the flora near the mouth of the cave she sought refuge within, causing a cave-in, trapping her inside the cave. She would spend the next few hours trapped in the collapsed cave, a wound she had received prior to her arrival weakening her with every minute. Kirei, having brutally dispatched her hunter, quickly followed a trail of burnt plants and torched carcasses until she arrived at the cave-in site and managed to retrieve young Yasashii and quickly get her to the nearest hospital. When Yasashii finally came to, she was in the care of her parents and doctors. The trauma of running for her life from her wounded mother, being chased by predators in the jungle, and being trapped wounded in a cave would forever scar her, leaving her claustrophobic.
It would take a while for Sakura's fear to subside enough that she could return to training, so Sora spent much time at home schooling her in general subjects, a period of time in which her interest in arts would begin to become prevalent. Even after she returned to dedicated martial arts training, she could often be found painting or playing her yjitahr. Sora and Yuri realized that Yasashii was mentally fit when the pictures and songs she portrayed no longer focused conveyed darkness.
Yasashii would spend her practice time playing catch-up to her peers, who, by that time were already well into Senshi training. She quickly picked up kyujutsu, but she balked on hand-to-hand combat, though she would end up focusing her early studies on kendo. Her studies of kendo and tenjutsu focused primarily on a special katana that was forged to suit her unique abilities, based on Sora's knowledge of chemistry. The katana, which Yasashii named Kumoten (loosely meaning 'Heaven's Cloud') to honor her ohmah, is a special sword crafted to withstand intense heat, and is accompanied by a scabbard lined with a jellied form of ethanol derived from the rice grown around their home. This combination allows Yasashii, whose pyrokinetic abilities had begun to strengthen considerably since her fifth birthday, a powerful combat technique.
Sakura participated in her first Festivael Angelus around the age of five. The bright-eyed youngster was the center of attention and impressed many with her own fire dance solo during the Dance of Angels. Each year following, Yasashii's artistic contributions to the Dance would always leave the spectators in awe for weeks to follow.
Around her seventh birthday, Yasashii's second wing would emerge, earlier than expected, which only furthered her village's speculation of her abnormality. By her twelfth birthday she began to study a second weapon technique, having nearly mastered kenjutsu, and particularly iaijutsu, which focuses on drawing her sword and attacking in a single motion, as well as adapting several weapon sundering techniques. Unlike standard kenjutsu, Kirei's kenjutsu instruction included fencing, so that she would be able to defend against attacks. She began to focus on the pike, particularly the naginata and the long sword. Her pike studies began under her nonimah, Moya Enjeru, a renowned Taishi, after a serious debate between Sora and Kirei as to whether Yasashii should engage in Senshi studies abroad. Eventually both parents did agree that Yasashii was ready to study abroad when she neared her fifteenth birthday. Though hesitant, she also yearned to join her peers as a traveled Senshi and journeyed to the mainland by flight making several island hops, testament to her ability to read the winds.
Sakura began to study under Maio Dao master Zi Juan Lei shortly after her arrival on the mainland, picking up where she left off with her Maio dao training. About one year into her training, Yasashii entered an international Senshi martial arts competition and ended up finishing third. This finish, although not as high as her pahmah and nonimah before her, proved enough to spark attention from a particular group of Tenshishi. Her training following that competition would prove to be far more perilous than before.
During the year following the tournament Yasashii's training would be interrupted by Tenshishi several times, three of which required intervention by Zi Juan Lei. One year later, and after a particularly engaging Tenshishi attack, she decided to return home to visit her parents, her ohmah particularly concerned with the recent situation. En route, she is intercepted, captured, and held for ransom.
At just shy of 6' tall, Sakura is just a little bit smaller than her mother with a tanned pink complexion, a mixture of her pahmah's tanned complexion and of her ohmah's very fair complexion; coupled with a lean but muscular build. She has large almond eyes, inherited from her pahmah. Unlike both of her mothers, Sakura maintains short-to-medium length hair, very thick and very coarse, an odd mixture of her ohmah's fine auburn-red hair and her pahmah's coarse brown hair, resulting in a fiery red, coarse color (which some believe is an unworldly color attributed to her faint Cryssian heritage). Sakura's face is also an ethnic enigma; her head is a bit larger than that of a Caucasian, but not as much as one of Japanese or Chinese descent (to which Yuri is of). Her lips are thicker than her ohmah's but not as thick as her pahmah's. Yasashii, like all Angels, has bi-colored eyes. Her left eye is turquoise, and her right eye is green-yellow.
Yasashii is much like her ohmah in more ways than just her hair and complexion. A Leo, she is a very proud woman, charismatic, dignified, and commanding, traits she most likely picked up by watching her ohmah. Yasashii, whose name some claim is now something of a misnomer, has an incredible sense of humor, and her love of jokes sometimes lends her to trouble, as she enjoys playing practical jokes on friends. While mischievous, her intellect is generally prevalent, due to lessons [and punishment] received from her mahs, lending itself to jokes made 'within reason.'
She is curious by nature, nearly rivaling the degrees of curiosity exhibited by Cryssians. Yasashii is marked by her consistently cheerful day-to-day attitude. When she is upset it is publicly apparent to all who know her. She displays an intense energy towards life and takes aggressive control of her own situation. Knowledge of her own power and strength and the strength of her mahs contribute greatly to her daily experience. Unlike her pahmah, she is far from quiet or introverted.
A smile is contagious, and Yasashii smiles as much as she possibly can, even when life events are not particularly pleasing. Since telepathy is not common on Tai'ruun, it is difficult for someone who does not yet fully know her to see past a cheerful facade. Her affections, like her smiles, are often displayed without restraint. She is careful, however, not to portray herself in any way that would bring either shame or dishonor to herself or her family name.
Sakura is persistent and not easy to deter, at least not in theory, but despite the powerful image of the pahmah she tries to emulate, she is a very young Taiyese woman, and she is 'tainted' by the powerfully charismatic traits she picked up from her ohmah.
Yasashii, much like her ohmah, is sensitive of the feelings and emotions of those around her, a sensitivity that has become more prevalent in recent years, as Yasashii's telepathy has become more prevalent. As such she seems even more charismatic [or perhaps, manipulative] to those around her, because the emotions and attitudes of others seem to 'reach out' to her and she can empathize with them.
Nothing brings her more joy than thoughts and items from home. It was her passion for her homeland that almost allowed her to remain home instead of studying abroad, which, while it would have been unfortunate in terms of broadening horizons, she still could have received exceptional training from the Senshi of the Angel Islands. One of her favorite pastimes is to sit in a tree overlooking one of the islands' many crystal beaches and play her yjitahr. Another activity Yasashii particularly enjoys is the annual Festivael Angelus held in the capital of the Angel Islands, including contributing to the highlight of the Festival, the Dance of Angels. She also enjoys the native foods of her homeland, including many of the fruits, fish, and the islands' staple, rice. A healthy eater, a home-cooked meal can often sedate many a bad mood.
Yasashii is proficient in several forms of kenjutsu and the related art, iaijutsu. Yasashii's iaijutsu is a personalized style which takes particular advantage of her weapon choice. Yasashii's 'hijutsu' affords her great potential to sunder her opponent's weapon. Not only is she practiced in igniting her weapon, but she can also effectively control the intensity of the heat and flames coating her blade. When fighting with her Katana, Yasashii's style is far more relaxed and reactive than when she uses either a naginata or her no-dachi.
Sakura is well-practiced with both the naginata and the no-dachi, having studied under Taishis Moya Enjeru and Zi Juan Lei. While Yasashii is strong, her combined style is an emphasis on deliberate, graceful motions that afford her incredible power and range in melee combat.
Yasashii's is practiced in the meditative aspects of kyujutsu, a standard practice of most Senshi. Her accuracy with a bow nearly rivals that of her mother, though she does share the same level of understanding in it that Kirei does.
While Yasashii is skilled primarily in the use of weapons, she uses a form of jujitsu and aikido, focusing particularly on reversals and defensive grapples, lacking practice in the powerful striking ability exhibited by her pahmah.
An angel of pure lineage, the first discipline to emerge is pyrokinesis, allowing her a transparent sub-molecular control over the excitation of particular substances and to generate her own sources of heat. This ability developed particularly quickly, even for an Angel with her background. It is estimated that at the rate her abilities are developing, she will have exceptional control over the basic elements by age thirty whereas most Angels would then be developing control over a second.
Like most Angels, Yasashii also has the ability to absorb solar radiation and transform that into biochemical energy, which can then be released from the body in a number of ways, often as either bioelectric discharges or transferred from the Angel's body into another medium, where it is often stored in a condensed form. Additionally, Yasashii has the innate ability to suspend her body weightless in midair, and to move around through gaseous or fluid mediums without being under the influence of gravity. She is capable of moving at speeds nearing 300kph (235m771ftph) and remaining afloat for several hours at a time before fatigue sets in.
Inherited from her ohmah is a weak form of telepathy (currently only developed as a form of emphathy), which allows not only for Yasashii to reach out to others, but for her to detect the feelings of others even when she is not directly interacting with them. This ability also allows for her to communicate more easily with Cryssians, even though she does not understand yet how to project her thoughts into the minds of others. Her connections are strongest with her mahs, even her pahmah, who is not inherently telepathic.
Yasashii holds dear a locket with a picture of herself and her mahs. Similarly, her Senshi beads and sash are among her greatest treasures. She also has a preferred bow, and her Kumoten, a specialized katana forged with grooves in the blade allowing it to hold more of the gelled ethanol mixture lining her scabbard, is a favorite weapon of hers. Yasashii also owns a personalized yjitahr.
